A Special Guest-- StarGrrl's Story

So, so sorry for this delay, I have had Stargrrl's s story and pics for a long time now... Here it is, the love story behind her beautiful shawl, and the first spotlighted FO from our Twisted SAL!

In her own words:
" Once upon a time there was a girl. She had a Granny that she loved dearly.
Granny passed away on Thanksgiving, and the day she passed there was a beautiful
rainbow in the sky. From that day forward, the girl would see rainbows and think
that her Granny was smiling down on her.
One day this girl met a boy. She and the boy were friends for 3 years until the
day when the boy slipped and said “I love you.”
The girl thought on this slip for a week before the boy showed his face again.
The boy came to her office to tell her his biopsy results had come back as
non-cancerous.
He asked the girl to stand up, and she stepped into his arms.
She felt like she was coming home.
That following Thanksgiving, the boy asked the girl to marry him. He knew that
Thanksgiving made her sad because she missed her Granny. And he wanted to give
her a happy memory for the holiday.
They went to dinner at Shari’s. As they were leaving the restaurant, the boy
looked up and pointed out a beautiful double rainbow above the restaurant.
The girl stood there and cried, because she knew it was her Granny blessing her.

The boy ran to the car, where he knew the girls camera was, and brought it back
so she could take a picture.
He then mentioned that she should get a better photo without the restaurant roof
in the way.
The girl cried again, because this wonderful boy wanted to chase rainbows with
her.
She was in love. 3 months later, the girl and boy were getting married in Las Vegas.
Fast forward a few years. The girl finds knitting. She joins a website called
Ravelry.
Over the next two years she learns to crochet and spin too. She joins a group on
Ravelry called Completely Twisted and Arbitrary, and they have a monthly
Spin-A-Long. She submitted her story and a photo.
She was picked as one of the 4 finalists. The dyer chose her photo as one of the
inspiration pieces. She dyed up some beautiful fiber and the girl got 4 braids
and spun them up. Then she picked a pattern and knit her handspun into a
beautiful shawl. The shawl reminds her of the love of her Granny and the love
she has with her Husband/soulmate."

Stargrrl, thank you for being my dyeing inspiration, and for sharing!

Where to start?

Wow, what a summer it's been!  Lots of changes, some good, some a little crazy... but I'm back this Fall and ready to embark on some new artistic adventures!
Light Dusting Lace is finished for the summer-- it was so great to feature the talents of Karen Walker, and we were very grateful to Knitcircus for being our mystery sponsor for  Month 2.  The three club shipments this round were 100% Mulberry Silk, 100% Merino, and 50/50 Merino/Cashmere or 50/50 Wool/Silk-- I hope everyone enjoyed them :)
We've been working with Knitcircus summer to bring you a few new patterns and we were thrilled to present the Acuminate pattern in the Fall 2010 issue, which went live in August.  Gifts is up now, and two of the NTS yarns, Perfection Sport and Mulberry Silk Lace, were reviewed.  But by far the most exciting is the debut of my "Choose it and Use It" article series-- the first installment focused on choosing and using sweater yarns, and the next installment will be in Knitcircus Winter 2010, as well as a new pattern.  How cool is that?
Lots and lots of patterns in the works... we just released Karen Walker's Love in Bloom, amazingly awesome knitter Puffycats is behind the scenes testing our Mystery KAL.  I will be looking for new testers for the Honey Hunting Cardigan as well- if you are interested, please drop me a line... Plus, a simple cabled lace stole, fair isle mittens, and double stranded shawl are on their way to release!
NTS has been carrying a variety of spinning fiber this summer, and I've been spinning up a storm this week-- loving the 50/50 Merino/Silk blend with a passion.  NTS was lucky enough to be able to lost the Aug/Sept SAL for the CTA spinners on Ravelry--  check back here  for a gallery of handspun by these talented spinners!
On the personal knitting front, lots going on-- Still Light in Tosh Merino Light Silver Fox, Colannade in Claudia's Jumbo Loop Boucle, a new top down shrug in Merino Light Ivy and Mansfield Garden Party, a Baltic Blossoms in NTS Tussah Silk Lace Light Fingering, Caed's birthday sweater in Claudia's and Dye My Darling  sock yarns, and my queue goes on an on... and on...

Robert started school recently, so I will have time to write more often.  Can you believe it?  It's hard to believe he's almost three, and Caed's first birthday is fast approaching.  I was also so excited to get back to ballet-- I missed my students big time!

We also spent the weekend  of the 18th participating in World Wide Spin in Public day-- thanks to all those who came by Franklin Square to spin (and knit) and be seen!

Completely Twisted!

Earlier this summer, I joined a great Rav group, the Completely Twisted and Arbitrary Spinners Group.  Besides their wicked enabling skillz, these ladies can also spin some crazy nice yarn, and have fiber stashes to make you drool!  One of the most fun parts of the summer was that NoTwoSnowflakes hosted the August-September CTA Spin-a-long... a sort of group project where we all spin colorways from a specific dyer that have been created for the group.  Over the next few days,  I'm going to be explaining how we chose the colors and highlighting some amazing spins that came out of the SAL, and we will have some written contributions from the colorway winners as well :)   The pics you see here are of our two colorways, "Between Worlds" and "Stagelit", both on the luxurious 50/50 SW Merino/Silk base- yum!

Fluff Pile

Fluffy stuff everywhere you look!  I have so many projects on the needles, in my head-- my design list is just beyond the pale ridiculous!  Currently well into B's wedding shawl, Caed's sweater is in time out for possible too-smallness, and my summer shawl is progressing nicely.  I used the pattern 198 yds. of Heaven, but I will be doing my own edging.  I also scored some great Madtosh TML in Filigree this week, and some Dreaming in Gujarati from FLUFF.  Not much time to write, lots of work, but here's a pic of my favorite yummy:

A Healthy Outlook

Gearing up for summer by "tightening the belt"-- I am back on my sugarplum diet and feeling good.  " What is the Sugarplum diet?" you inquire?  Well, a few years ago I made up this diet to fit into a size 2 ballet costume in 4 months (I was a 6 at the time), but I didn't want to be unhealthy because I also had to dance the Sugarplum Fairy variation, which is physically challenging.
The diet is extremely simple-- no sugar, no fried food.  And even though the first two weeks are absolute murder, it works amazingly well!  The first time I followed it strictly for 4 months and lost 25 lbs.  The second time I followed it loosely (treats on Sunday), and lost 15 lbs.  The great part is you loose the weight slowly and consistently, so it tends to stay off.  But the very best part is that you feel fantastic and strong.  Already, after following the diet loosely for a month, I have lost 15 lbs and my energy has gone up by about 20%.  And now I'm really cracking down in an effort to feel great this summer-- post-preggers can be hard on your strength and endurance, and I want to be dancing at full speed again come Fall. So-- wish me luck!

On the NTS front, we had a big shop update this week, and we have just one spot left in the lace club! Lots of new silk spinning fiber, some sock yarns, a lace gradient, and more-- check it out here!

I am also really happy to say that I have finally finally finally started on Caeden's First Birthday Sweater-- I was really starting to feel the pinch as he is now 6 months!   I am using Claudia Handpaints in Spring Break and Marigold, and Dye My Darling Before it was Cool Sock in "One Cool Caed", dyed especially for this sweater by my husband :)  I am also knitting Baltic Blossoms in the Tussah Silk lace from NTs for my SIL's wedding shawl, and my goal over the next week or so is to take out my Snow on Leaves Cardi and finish it up-- I need some yardage out for Stashdown, and this is the closest finisher I've got!

Competition is over for DTTM this year, I am so ready for some fresh starts in general-- new diet, new choreography, new projects on the needles, and some new yarns and fibers in the shops super soon-- change feels so good!

Forget Your Troubles, C'mon Get Happy

OK, so sometimes I really need a reminder that my life is good and I am so lucky to have such a wonderful family, such great friends, and a really fun job... even just writing that makes me annoyed at myself for how crabby I have been this week.  So, I will now list some great things that I am happy about:
1. My husband helped me plan an amazing party for Caeden's 6 month birthday.  We rarely see our MA relatives, and we were actually able to gather both bobby and my families, as well as our best friends Coco and Ed in one place for the first time since the baby was born.  Also, I have a beautiful and healthy 6 month old!

2. I spent the morning dyeing, and things look delicious...
3. Robert has had a great time this week running around in the warm weather and going to the park, tomorrow morning I am taking him to the Septa transit museum, which he loves
4. My wonderful friend Leilani has cheered me up yet again with delicious bread and sympathetic conversation
5. I got some amazing angora/silk and alpaca/silk fiber in a trade, as well as some mink, and some Kauni, which I have been dying to try!
6. Lots of good and secretive pattern goings on for NTS!
7. We are almost full in the lace club :)
8. This week is ballet party week-- FIESTA! and smoothies, yum!
9. We finally got an umbrella stroller for two kids to make my life easier
10. I am resuming my feel great sugar free diet and Bobby and I are going to start doing long baby walks at night!

Hidden Beauty

So, Easter was a big success with the babies! Not only was Robert super excited to egg hunt ( he wasn't very swift, he just ate the chocolate as he found it), but both R and Caeden made it through candy, church and the egg hunt with white pants still intact-- my babies are so good!

Enough parental gushing, let's talk yarn! A beautiful new set of silk lace in the shop that can be used for the Evenstar KAL, check out Sophistication I and II if you get a chance... New spinning fiber is coming to NTS late this Spring, we should have some merino and Merino/Silk in the shop, I am really excited as lately I have been a bit of a yarn pig and need to switch focus to spinning more :)

My Evenstar is not progressing well, as I only knit it when I'm at Nangellini, and I'm trying to release a bunch of patterns soon... Keep your eyes open for a new lace cloche pattern coming in May, "Come Rain or Shine", and I will also be releasing a new Worsted Cardi this summer. I also just finished my #02 Lace jacket, and I don't like the way it fits me, it may go to my poor mom who gets all my knits I don't love. But I am divided and may keep it for summer anyway, because the Jaipur silk used was a gift from my most lovely pen pal Margot in Sweden, and it is one of my all time fave colors-- so beautiful! The image is of it blocking on my boards...

Lately, I've been finding great things in unexpected places-- this silk arrived from Margot unlooked for, I've been finding pattern inspiration everywhere, and an amazing something (secret) fell out of the sky to me the other day... I guess it just goes to show, sometimes the egg really will have something surprising inside!

Tales from the World's Worst Blogger

Well, let's see. We have a new son, Caeden Casimer Corry, 9 lbs. 2 oz when he was born October 19, 2009... he is almost 6 months old now and 20 lbs., and I am writing my first blog post since he was still in utero-- I am officially the world's worst blogger. But we have had quite a bit going on...
Bobby (our wonderful "Mystery Dyer", and the talent behind www.DyeMyDarling.Etsy.com) is getting certified this Spring to become an EMT, and he is in an ongoing accelerated program for nursing. His program only accepted a few students and since he has straight A's, he was a great candidate to get in! Meanwhile, Robert has been great adjusting to being a big brother -- lots of hugs, kisses, and "he's nice" in the direction of his baby brother.

And as for me-- well, super incredibly busy as always! My ballet students did NYCDA this year, and the workshops were amazing-- I loved the Contemporary and the Hip Hop. And at our second competition this year Kier and Sophia took the top 2 overall spots for senior soloists-- they so deserve it! The image is of Kiersten in her "16 tons" costume.

And at NTS, we have had some amazing goings-on... new yarns, custom colors for the Evenstar KAL, a new 2nd Anniversary Shawl by Karen Walker, 2 patterns published in Knitcircus magazine (with a third to follow this fall), and 2 or 3 very cool things on the burners right now... very exciting, but a secret until I know a little more :). If you haven't been by the shop, you should come and check things out-- among our newer offerings are 100% Mulberry Silk spinning fiber and 50/50 Cashmere/Merino lace, an incredible yarn that screams "cuddle me"!

Now that I am back to Blogland I will be posting much more often-- I have many, many projects to post about, lots of new designs I am working on, and more fun stuff-- but for now, Happy Easter all!

Coming Back

Exciting news! My "Key to My Heart" Mittens were submitted and accepted by Knitcircus Magazine, for their Winter #8 Issue--this will be my first in-print pattern, and I am super excited!!! More info as the release date gets closer, but I know the mag can be found in LYS's and you will be able to download the entire issue as well from the Knitcircus website.

So much has happened since I last wrote! My cousin's Jaimee is now married, the wedding was lovely and elegant; I finished her ring pillow, knit in Plymouth Mulberry Merino in the Natural color. No Two Snowflakes has also released my newest pattern, Flying Trapeze Lace Tunic, which was modeled by the beautiful Kiersten (at present I am far too preggers to model!). This sample was knit up in Reynold's Rapture. Also released this month is Baby, Take a Bow! a FREE Ravelry download, although we are accepting donations for a very good friend who has been injured and cannot work. New on the yarn front-- the Mystery Dyer has brought us the first of the Fall Cashmere's, and they are INCREDIBLE! Two different DK weights made their way to the shop this week, as well as some gorgeous new Merino/Cashmere/Silk laceweight-- yummy :) From Karen Walker we have the Neptune's Net KAL happening on Ravelry... this pattern is due out by early October, so far our test knitters have been doing a great job and providing lots of excellent feedback.
On the needles now-- Gooseberry Cardigan by Hannah Fettig, knit in Great Adirondak Sierra, a handpainted 100% heathered alpaca, in the Painted Desert Colorway. Also making some headway on my Kaleidescope Cardigan, knit in Lena Brown Designs handpainted Angora blend, 85% Bunny! This cardi is super thin, but I expect the halo to come up and be just delicious! I have also stashed a little bit of Mirasol Tupa for the Paper Dolls Sweater, the yarn comes in incredible jewel tones, I chose Auburn, Hot Pink Topaz, and Gold. My LYS Nangellini carries a full color line of this yarn, I want almost every color!
Summer has wound down, Robert had a few trips to LBI with the family, and went to Sesame Place as well with his cousin Shane. Ballet starts next week, I miss my girls and am ready to be back!! Bobby and I are hard at work getting ready for the new baby, and Robert's 2nd birthday is right around the corner-- lots to do!

1001 Hearts! Katrina Love :)

Wow! Today the incredible has happened! The Katrina Ballerina Lace Layering Cardigan, which made its debut in May 2009, hit 1001 Ravelry Hearts this morning... I never would have guessed that so many people would show love for this pattern, which started out as a little Christmas gift to make my sister happy :) So many people have contributed to this patterns success, not the least of which was our great group of test knitters, as well as the great advertising opportunities that Ravelry offers its yarnies. 26 people have entered this project on Ravelry as of today, and it in is 333 queues. I just want to thank the knitters who have made this day so great for me!

We also have a SHOP UPDATE today, beautiful new Mystery Dyer Silks are in, and ooh-lala, you have to see and ogle these lovelies... sigh, I wish they were all for me! One is an especially lovely speckled lavender silk, be still my heart!

Summertime, Summertime!

So much going on this summer! My cousin's wedding is fast approaching, we are trying to get Robert out of the city for another day trip to the shore before I am too preggers to travel much, and work with the shop is really keeping me busy. For fans of Karen Walker, there is a new shawl pattern coming out that you will adore, and I myself have several patterns in the works, a new cashmere sweater pattern for the fall that is super fun! Our Mystery dyer is hard at work creating new yarns for No Two Snowflakes, more silks to come very soon, yum, I kept a skein of Simply Stunning to make a Flared Lace Smoke Ring. I also just cast on for a #24 Ruffled Cardigan from Vogue Knitting Summer 2009, knit in the 100% Silk Hipknits Silk Aran-- Loving the yarn so far!

Gifted

So many knitted gifts, so little time! My cousin had me design a pillow for her wedding, which I knit up in Plymouth's Mulberry Merino, a truly lovely yarn with great shine. I am using some Extra SuperFine Merino to make new baby Brennan (my cousin's little boy) a welcome home hat, and I just finished a hat for our new baby-to-be :)If I can get the design out for Brennan's hat I may release it as FREE Ravelry download, I have been wanting to do a free design for some time now! It will be great to add to my other patterns on Etsy and Ravelry... my goal is to have 10 patterns on my designer page by the time the baby is born.
The image above is one of the new Mystery Dyer silks from the shop, if these don't sell very soon, they are going to be mine, all mine as a gift to myself!

The Laziest Blogger is Back

Well, I'm finally back to blogging! Life has been so crazy here that I have had very little chance to write at all, but I'm ready to pick up again :)

The shop has some very exciting news-- this summer while I'm pregnant, we have hired a Mystery Dyer to take over the yarn dyeing, since I am unable to work with the chemical dyes. So far our Mystery Dyer has given us two installments of yarn, all of which are stunning! So far there have been a great variety of lace yarns for summer knitting: 100% Cashmere, 100% Silk, 100% Superfine Merino, Merino/Angora, Merino/Cashmere/Silk, Wool/Silk, and some really cool Cashmere/Silk. We also have released a bunch of new patterns with in the last month, Katrina Ballerina Lace Layering Cardigan, Susie Sells Seashells, Charlotte Luxury Cowl, and Skater's Waltz Lace Ankle Sock, all of which are great to knit for warmer weather!

In other news, I am due in October, and am trying to get as very much knitting done while I still can, and before running herd on two baby boys takes over all my free time... I am working on my cousin's wedding pillow, a Louisa Lace Tunic, some Spirogyra Handspun Hand Warmers,
and a pair of gorgeous Rivendell socks, knit in Ocean Dreams, a No Two Snowflakes yarn. I also have an Aeolian in the works and have been trying to spin more... I made some really lovely yarn from some Twisted Fiber Arts roving in Netherfield.

This week I was finally able to get Robert out of the city for a day trip to the beach and Barnegat Light, he has been cooped up too long with me pregnant and not feeling so great. He had a fantastic time with his Babci (my mom) and his Pop Pop Pop, and had to be dragged out of the ocean!

Hearts, Charts, and Finishing What I Start

Ok, so I am finally back to blogland! So much has been going on for us over at the shop, three new patterns (one each by your truly, Karen Walker, and welcoming Rheba Smith to the No Two Snowflakes team!) and one on the way by Karen called the Icicles Lace Wrap that is to die for! Karen's lovely shawls are all charted and are available for sale in my shop, and Rheba's Pretty Crew Sock is a great introductory pattern to those not yet addicted to sock knitting. Most exciting for me is the debut of my first sock pattern, The Rose Adagio Lace Sleep Sock, which has had so much kind response so far, thanks everyone! It's been a great week for hearts, we hit over 400 hearts on Etsy last week, and passed 50 hearts on the Rose Adagio this weekend on Ravelry, I am really feeling the love, and thanks Ravellers who made what was otherwise not the nicest week full of fun!
What's on the needles? What isn't! I need to catch a case of finish-itis, as lately I have had cast on fever! I started some socks with my Swingin' Handspun Singles yarn collaborated on with HowToUseArt's Tessa, I cast on a February Lady Sweater, which I am going to modify and do as a puff sleeve, I think, I am still at the bitty bottom of MS4 (gorgeous pattern though!), I am a third into my Convertible Cardigan, I finished my Red Running Robert Socks and my Cashmere Cami, but still have to do the last sleeve on Robert's First Birthday Sweater. Also, hints of patterns to come, I am working on a Maple Leaf Rag pattern (shh!) and a secret Nutcracker-themed Stole that we will hopefully have for Holiday! As far as stash enhancement goes I dyed some new Merino/Tencel for the next sock club pattern, I got some Merino Lace from Handpainted Yarn in a trade, and I am also expecting some Sea Silk in Autumn that I traded for-- oh how I love that stuff!
By far the best news this week-- Bobby will have Robert all day Thursday, and I think I smell a knitting machine debut!

Light Dusting Lace Club is back!

So, we are ready for round two of the lace club! I have changed the format a little so that members get enough lace in their mailing one month to do a larger project, but the club members still get (4) 100 gram skeins of lace over the course of the mailings, as well as the newest NTS lace scarf pattern! I hope to see some of our old members for round two, as well as some new faces :) Also, to read about some of our members' club experiences, check out our Ravelry Group!

It's been a crazy week! Expect to see a new sock pattern by Rheba Smith, a new Lace Wrap pattern by Karen Walker of Heirloom Lace, and possible a little surprise pattern from me... also, new merino and silk lace will become available this week, some new handspun (look for the hand dyed silk) and some more luxury alpaca sock-- plenty of great fiber for Christmas gifts!

Robert and I spent Sunday with his PopPopPop, shopping for birthday clothes and hanging out at the playground- Robert is walking up a storm, and today is 11 months for him... getting closer to the big day, and I need to go make invitations!
